Roller Shades Hidden By A Matching Valance
Roller shades (or roller blinds - as some people call them) are versatile and underutilized type of window shades.
Besides being excellent light and sun blockers, roller shades are easy to take care of as well as extremely easy to operate.
One drawback that many customers mention is that they find the rolled-up shades unsightly at the top of their windows.
If that's your case, and you'd still like to have new roller shades in your windows without having to consider custom-made valances, this idea may help you decide for roller shades after all.

There's an extra item in a package if you order roller shades with a matching valance. The valance. It is made out of plastic and holds a strip of the shade's material in the top and bottom groove (facing the room).
Usually, the same type of valance is available for vertical blinds (both inside and outside mount).

The valance in the picture is covering the bracket … and is going to fully cover the roller shades as well.
Notice the excess of decorative shade's material folded over from the front of the valance.
It's good to have a bit extra … if need be for some reason

| Roller Shades In A Basement Family Room Window Left Control Chain - Matching Valance - Inside Mount |
In the example you see above, there's an inside-mount window treatment of roller shades. The valance fits inside the window, flush with the front of its frame. The brackets and the roller shades are hidden from view, giving the installation the look of neat, tidy … and finished.
No need to mess around with sewing valances together to cover the shades up (unless you really want to).
Alternately, you can order the same combo, but for an outside mount (e.g. for a door or a shallow window).
The extra parts you'd need to ask for would be:
- L & R Valance Returns
- Outside-Mount Holding Brackets (Right-Angled) To Hold The Valance In Place Over The Roller Shades
