A Natural Alternative To Woven Wood Shades

What if you’d like to dress up your windows in natural materials, you’re stuck on woven wood shades, but this one problem keeps you undecided?

What’s the “little” problem about?

Say, you have a few windows, and you are considering going with an inside-mount woven wood shades.
BUT, you just can’t get over the view taken away by the gathered shade material when you pull the shades up.
The longer the window, the more material gathers at the top headrail. A woven wood blind could even take 8-12 inches off your view.
Hmmm.

What are your choices here while still going “natural” with reeds, natural grasses and fibers to have earth colors and textures covering your windows (a.k.a “bamboo window shades”) … and still getting the most out of your view?

There are two choices … at least.

Going with woven wood shades is fine.
The extra you need to add is the top down – bottom up feature.
You get to control two moving rails – one at the bottom and one at the top. Lowering the top rail helps you control both the view and privacy. And since the shades would be only partially open at the top, or covering the window completely, the “gathering” problem at the top is out.

What many folks miss are the choices roller shades offer. Depending on the materials, roller shades may even cost less than woven wood shades for the same windows.

The manufacturers of roller shades have come a long way in using natural materials for “roller” production.

Did you notice how little room they take at the top? Even if rolled up, roller shades may take up from 2-3 inches of view only as opposed to 7-9 inches woven wood shades would hog in the same inside-mount example.

Something to mull over, isn’t it?

If you are concerned about the exposed “roll” at the top, you can order a matching valance that will create a clean, finished look by covering up the roller shades hardware at the top.
